Isian Ceremony of Spiritual Renewal By Lady Brenda of The Grove of the Green Cobra We need to renew spiritual goals so they can in turn renew of our emotional and physical goals. The ancient Egyptians perceived the body as a sacred vessel that held the Sekhem, or spiritual life force. The Sekhem and its care and renewal ensured physical and emotional well being in this life and the afterlife. In this Egyptian ritual we call upon the powers of Isis to lead us to spiritual renewal. This is for group magick, so participants should have an informal circle beforehand to discuss what areas of their lives they wish renewed. Thus, in true group spirit, all will work with the same vision of each goal. Once this is done, write each goal individually on one-inch squares of parchment. These record each participant's Will. An example of a Will would be: O Lady, grant that I receive the job that I need so that I may prosper and benefit my family. Participants would then visualize together what that person's job would be like, etc. Ceremony checklist: parchment squares with goals (Wills); small bowl for burning the parchment; Isis or lotus oil; Isis incense and burner; salt and water; green beeswax sheet; chalice and wine or beer; dates or cakes; altar facing south; Egyptian working tools: sistrum, crook and flail, ankh, lotus bowl, oil lamp. Roles: High Priestess/Isis; High Priest/Osiris; Elemental priestesses; East/Nephtys, South/Selkit, West/Isis, North/Neith. Notes: The papyrus marshes in the house of the Green Cobra are said to be the birthplace of Isis as told in the Book of the Dead. Hika is an ancient word of power to summon the gods, sometimes spelled Hikau. Per Aha is an invocation, loosely translated, I invoke thee. Neters is the Egyptian word for Deities. As always, consecrate the Temple area before any work. The temple is consecrated with Natron water, a mixture of salt, water and bicarbonate of soda. In ancient times this mixture came from the River Natron and was used for purification and mummification. Following the purification by Natron, cense the temple area with frankincense and myrrh. Participants enter the circle from due east and take their places the representative goddesses at the quarters, other participants between them. The priestess in the role of Isis and the priest in the role of Osiris take their places in front of the altar. The High Priestess leads a healing meditation that brings the Egyptian Flame up into each participant. The Egyptian Flame is the eternal blue flame called Uta. It nourishes the Life Force, Sekhem. In the meditation, you find it in your own temple/body. You then visualize the Flame moving through you to burn away all disease and negativity. After grounding, the participants in the place of their respective goddesses invoke the Elements and Neters: East: Hail to thee, o Winds of the East! It is I, Nephtys, who asks your presence here. South: Hail to thee, o Fire of the South! It is I, Selkit, who asks your presence here. West: Hail to thee, o Waters of the West! It is I, Isis, who asks your presence here. North: Hail to thee, o powers of the North, seed ground of Geb! It is I, Neith, who asks your presence here. The High Priestess shakes her sistrum five times and invokes Isis: Hika! Hika! Hika! Hika! Hika! Isis per aha! I invoke Thee, o Mistress of Magick and Medicine, Who cometh forth from the papyrus marshes, from the House of the Green Cobra. Just as Osiris heard Your cry, so do we beseech You to be here now with us. Selkit/South comes forth to light the oil lamp. One by one the members light their Wills from the flame and drop them into the bowl. Once burned to ashes, the High Priestess adds three drops of lotus oil to form a paste (or five or seven drops as appropriate, according to how many wills are burned). The green beeswax is then placed in the hands of Osiris. The High Priestess takes the ankh from the altar and places it against Osiris' lips, saying: Awake! Awake, Osiris, from Your Underworld realm. Awake! Awake, My love, so that the world shall be reborn from the darkness, and with this awakening come the rebirth of our desires on all levels. The High Priestess then places the paste mixture in the center of the green sheet of beeswax. Osiris forms the wax and ash into an egg. Placing it on the altar, He rolls it from east to west three times. All members focus on their desires at this time. Leave the egg on the altar overnight and then bury it in the earth. [This symbolism comes from the sacred scarab beetle, Khepera, who would always roll its dung balls from east to west. Thus, Khepera became a god of renewal, regeneration and fertility.] To close the circle, the High Priestess holds aloft her sistrum and says: Lady Isis, Daughter of the Sun, it is from You we receive the blessing of renewal. Go forth now to the seed ground of the stars from which You came. May you burn like Uta, the eternal flame in our hearts, forever. Starting at the east, dismiss and thank the Elements and the Neters. East: Return, return, o Nephthys, Lady of the Winds of the East. We thank You for Your presence here. South: Return, return, o Selkit, Lady of the Fire of the South. We thank You for Your presence here. West: Return, return, o Isis, Lady of the Waters of the West. We thank You for Your presence here. North: Return, return, o Neith, Lady of the Lands of Geb. We thank You for Your presence here. Share the dates and beer in libation. Isis Bless! |
