Teen Witch: Wicca For A New Generation
By Silver RavenWolf
ISBN 1-56718-725-0 288pp Llewellyn Publications, PO Box 64383, St. Paul, MN 55164-0383 USA. $12.95
Teen Witch is aimed at teenagers and young adults seeking to learn what it means to be a witch. It gives practical advice for dealing with everyday life in a magickal way. There are spells for all of life's little ups and downs; from homework and crabby teachers to parents and dating. The book also deals with Wiccan philosophy and morality in a comfortable yet authoritative way and is designed to be used as a guide for life. Parents, too, are encouraged to read the book and discuss the contents with their children and I can see its value in opening the door of communication that often closes at this stage in a young person' s life.
Because it is aimed at so young an audience, I studied this book with a super critical eye, and found the advice given to be sage and applicable to almost any faith. I do have my reservations about the inclusion of so many spells. There is a price for every act, and this is especially true of magick and though this is explained very clearly in the text, I doubt whether an adolescent in the grip of swinging hormones would take sufficient heed. This, though is my only criticism. The book is well written by a wise woman of great experience and is certainly worth a read. |
